About the Church

Trinity Episcopal Church has served the Galveston community for generations and is an important part of the city’s historic landscape. The church’s stained glass windows contribute to the beauty and character of its worship space, reflecting the history and artistry of this historic Texas congregation.

Our Work

Willet Studios completed a comprehensive stained glass preservation project at Trinity Episcopal Church involving 26 windows. The project included protective coverings for 16 windows, complete historic restoration of 10 additional windows, and partial restoration of one window.

Klear-Flo™ Protective Coverings

Sixteen windows received new protective coverings using the Klear-Flo™ protective covering system.

As part of the preparation, the exterior surfaces of the window frames were repainted with rust-inhibiting paint to help protect the surrounding metalwork from corrosion.

The Klear-Flo™ system utilized a specialized perimeter frame with 3/8-inch laminated glass, providing an additional protective barrier for the stained glass.

Where necessary, glazing bars were added to follow the major lines of the existing framing. This provided additional structural support while preserving the exterior appearance and architectural character of the church.

Historic Restoration

Ten stained glass windows underwent a comprehensive program of historic restoration at the Willet Studios facility.

The restoration process began with carefully removing each stained glass window from its existing wood or steel setting. The windows were then transported from the job site to the studio, where they underwent a complete historic restoration program.

Following restoration, the windows were carefully transported back to the church and reinstalled in their original openings.

The surrounding frames were repainted, and protective coverings were applied to help safeguard the restored stained glass. Contractor-installed temporary plywood was also removed following completion of the work.

Partial Historic Restoration

In addition to the 10 fully restored windows, one window underwent historic restoration on only a portion of the window. This allowed the affected section to receive the necessary conservation work while preserving the remainder of the existing window.

Through a combination of comprehensive historic restoration, specialized partial restoration, structural improvements, millwork preservation, and new protective coverings, Willet Studios helped preserve the stained glass collection at Trinity Episcopal Church for future generations.
