About the Church
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church has been a part of the Petersburg, Virginia, community for generations. The church’s historic sanctuary features beautiful stained glass that contributes to the character and artistry of the worship space.
Our Work
Willet Studios completed a comprehensive historic restoration project involving one three-lancet traceried stained glass window at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The project included the complete restoration of the window, millwork restoration, installation of glazing bars, and a new Klear-Flo™ protective covering system.
Historic Restoration
The existing protective covering was carefully removed before the stained glass window was taken from its opening and transported to the Willet Studios facility for restoration.
While the window was being restored, temporary tinted acrylic was installed in the vacated opening to protect the church and maintain the appearance of the window opening.
Following completion of the restoration, the stained glass window was carefully transported back to the church and reinstalled in its original opening.
Architectural & Structural Improvements
The surrounding millwork was repainted as part of the project, refreshing the appearance of the window opening.
New glazing bars were also installed to follow the major lines of the existing framing. This approach provided additional structural support while helping preserve the exterior appearance and architectural character of the church.
Klear-Flo™ Protective Coverings
Following restoration, the window received new protection using the Klear-Flo™ protective covering system. A specialized perimeter frame with 1/4-inch acrylic was installed to provide an additional protective barrier between the historic stained glass and the elements.
The Klear-Flo™ system helps protect stained glass from potential impact and environmental exposure while allowing the restored artwork to remain visible.
Through careful historic restoration, architectural detailing, millwork restoration, and the installation of new Klear-Flo™ protective coverings, Willet Studios helped preserve this significant stained glass window at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for future generations.
