About the Church
St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Parish, located in Gahanna, Ohio, has long been a spiritual home for a growing and vibrant community. For over 60 years, the parish has been dedicated to “making disciples who love Jesus,” with a strong emphasis on the role of beauty in evangelization. As part of an ongoing campus-wide beautification project, the church has focused on enhancing its sanctuary with sacred art that inspires devotion and reflects the rich traditions of the Catholic faith.
Our Work
Our team designed and installed eleven custom stained glass windows, meticulously crafted to integrate with the architectural character of the sanctuary while providing deep theological symbolism.
Symbolic Medallion Design The project features a “medallion style” design, where central symbolic elements are highlighted within an intricate framework. This style draws the eye to the sacred iconography while allowing light to filter beautifully through the space.
- Apostolic Symbols: Nine of the windows feature medallions representing the symbols of the Apostles. These traditional icons serve as a visual Catechism, reminding parishioners of the lives and missions of the early Church leaders.
- Cherubim Medallions: Two windows are dedicated to the Cherubim, emphasizing the heavenly nature of the worship space and the presence of the angelic host in the liturgy.
Artistic Details
- Quarry Background: Each medallion is set against a “quarry” background of traditional diamond-shaped glass. This geometric pattern provides a timeless, elegant texture that complements the focal symbols without overwhelming them.
- Craftsmanship: The use of traditional leaded glass techniques ensures that these windows are not only beautiful but also built to endure as a legacy for future generations of the St. Matthew family.
