About the Church
St. Luke’s United Methodist Church serves the Houston community through worship, fellowship, and outreach. The church’s stained glass windows are an important part of its worship space, adding beauty and character to the sanctuary.
Our Work
Willet Studios completed a preservation project involving five stained glass windows at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. The project focused on preserving the existing stained glass while restoring and replacing portions of the surrounding wood sash.
Stained Glass & Sash Restoration
The project began with obtaining detailed window opening measurements and setting information to ensure the new components would properly fit the existing architecture.
The stained glass panes were carefully removed from their existing wood sash settings and transported, along with the sashes, to the Willet Studios facility.
While the work was being completed, temporary painted plywood was installed in the vacated window openings to protect the church.
Willet Studios then designed and fabricated new wood upper sashes specifically for the windows. The existing stained glass panes were carefully reinstalled into the newly fabricated upper sashes.
The restored window assemblies were then returned to the church, where the existing bottom sashes and new upper sashes were installed in their original openings.
Millwork Restoration
The surrounding millwork was also restored as part of the project. Loose paint was removed from the exterior surfaces, preparing the wood for a new protective finish.
The millwork received both a primer coat and finish coat of Sherwin-Williams Duration, providing a durable finish and refreshed appearance.
Through careful measurement, stained glass removal and reinstallation, custom wood sash fabrication, and millwork restoration, Willet Studios helped preserve the five stained glass windows at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church while improving the condition and longevity of their surrounding wood assemblies.
