Window Removal, Modification and Reinstallation into a Light-Box, Onsite
About the School Sisters of Notre Dame
The School Sisters of Notre Dame is an international religious congregation dedicated to education, faith, and service. Its Maryland community has a long history of ministry and commitment to serving others.
Our Work
Willet Studios completed a unique preservation and relocation project involving two existing stained glass windows. Portions of each window were carefully removed from their original settings, restored, and adapted for installation within new light-box frames.
This approach allowed the existing stained glass artwork to be preserved and displayed in a new setting.
Stained Glass Removal & Repair
For each of the two windows, six sections located above the ventilator were carefully removed from the existing window assembly.
The removed sections were then transported to another job site, where they were prepared for their new installation.
Before being incorporated into the light boxes, the stained glass sections underwent repair and stabilization to address areas requiring attention and ensure they were suitable for their new setting.
The window sections were also re-cemented on both their interior and exterior surfaces, helping reinforce the stained glass assemblies.
Custom Light-Box Installation
Following the repair and stabilization work, the stained glass sections were carefully reinstalled into custom light-box frames.
The sections were arranged within the frames to create each window as a complete display, allowing the original stained glass to continue to be appreciated in its new location.
This project demonstrates how historic stained glass can be thoughtfully adapted when an original architectural setting changes. Rather than losing the existing artwork, Willet Studios helped preserve the window sections and give them a new life as illuminated works of art.
