About the Church
Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church serves the New Canaan, Connecticut, community, providing a place for worship, fellowship, and gathering. The church’s distinctive faceted glass windows contribute to the character and beauty of its worship space.
Our Work
Willet Studios has worked with Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church on the preservation and protection of its stained glass. The work has taken place in two phases, beginning with exterior cleaning and sealing in 2023 and continuing in 2025 with the rebuilding and reinstallation of five large faceted glass panels and the addition of a new Klear-Flo™ protective covering system.
2023 Preservation Work
In 2023, Willet Studios completed preservation work focused on cleaning and protecting the existing faceted glass.
The exterior surfaces of the faceted panels and the adjacent stone framework were carefully rinsed and cleaned using a mild cleaning solution. The edges of the faceted glass panels were then pre-sealed, and the perimeter of the stained glass was sealed on the exterior using Silpruf®.
This work helped prepare and protect the existing glass and its surrounding setting.
2025 Faceted Glass Restoration
In 2025, Willet Studios returned to Saint Mark’s for a more extensive restoration of five panels of the faceted window. Each panel measures approximately 2 feet by 6 feet.
The five panels were carefully removed from their stone setting and temporarily replaced with transparencies installed over acrylic, allowing the existing window opening to remain filled while the original panels were being rebuilt.
Each of the five faceted glass panels was then rebuilt before being returned to the church and reinstalled in its original setting.
Klear-Flo™ Protective Coverings
Following the restoration, the window received Willet Studios’ exclusive Klear-Flo™ protective covering system.
A specialized perimeter frame was installed with 1/4-inch acrylic, creating an additional layer of protection between the restored faceted glass and the exterior environment.
The Klear-Flo™ system helps protect the window from potential impact and environmental exposure while keeping the original artwork visible.
Through ongoing preservation, careful rebuilding of the faceted glass, and the installation of a new protective covering system, Willet Studios helped ensure these distinctive windows at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.
