About the Church

Epiphany Lutheran Church is an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregation serving the greater Richmond metropolitan area. Located at the end of Monument Avenue in Richmond’s West End, the congregation welcomes members from communities throughout the surrounding region. The church is committed to worship, fellowship, and serving its community through faith and outreach.

Our Work

Willet Studios completed a repair and preservation project at Epiphany Lutheran Church that included repairs to the church’s stained glass windows and the installation of new protective coverings on nine windows.

Stained Glass Repairs

The window repairs addressed a variety of issues to help improve the stability and longevity of the stained glass.

Non-painted glass that was damaged was replaced with new glass. Cracked glass that could be preserved was carefully stabilized with epoxy, helping prevent further movement or damage.

Areas of bulging glass were reduced and straightened, relieving stress within the window panels. Existing structural support braces were also stabilized to provide additional support to the windows.

The exterior surfaces of the windows were re-cemented, helping reinforce the window assemblies and improve their weather resistance. The interior surfaces were also puttied as part of the repair process.

Klear-Flo™ Protective Coverings

Nine windows received new protective coverings using the Klear-Flo™ protective covering system. The existing outer surface of the millwork was prepared by removing loose paint, after which the millwork was repainted.

A specialized perimeter frame with 1/4-inch acrylic was then installed as part of the Klear-Flo™ system, providing an additional layer of protection between the stained glass and the elements.

Protective coverings help guard stained glass against potential impact and environmental exposure while allowing the original artwork to remain visible.

Through a combination of glass repair, structural stabilization, exterior re-cementing, millwork restoration, and new Klear-Flo™ protective coverings, Willet Studios helped preserve the stained glass windows at Epiphany Lutheran Church for years to come.
