Window Removal and Relocation, New Frames
About the Priory
Corpus Christi Priory is a religious community in Springfield, Illinois, with a long history of worship and service. Its stained glass windows are an important part of the character and visual history of the property.
Our Work
Willet Studios completed a large-scale relocation project involving 21 stained glass windows. The windows were carefully removed from their original location and transported to the client’s new site, where they were prepared for installation in newly designed custom frames.
The project required careful coordination to preserve the existing stained glass while adapting the windows to their new architectural setting.
Window Removal & Storage
The 21 stained glass windows were carefully removed from the original property and transported to the new client site for storage while preparations were made for their installation.
Once the stained glass had been removed from the original openings, 1/4-inch glass protective coverings were installed in the vacated openings to provide protection for the building while the windows were being relocated.
Stained Glass Preparation
The stained glass windows were re-cemented on both their interior and exterior surfaces to reinforce the window assemblies before their installation in the new location.
The existing protective coverings were then separated from the stained glass, and border lead was added where needed to prepare the windows for their new frames.
Custom Frames & Reinstallation
Each stained glass window was installed into a new custom frame designed to house the windows in their new location.
Additional stops were added as needed, and glazing was completed on both the interior and exterior surfaces to properly secure and protect the stained glass.
Willet Studios also designed, fabricated, and installed new AZEK sashes specifically to house the stained glass windows in their new architectural setting.
This custom approach allowed the historic stained glass to be preserved and incorporated into the client’s new location while providing the structural support and protection necessary for its continued use.
Through careful removal, preparation, transportation, custom framing, and reinstallation, Willet Studios helped give these 21 stained glass windows a new home while preserving their original artwork and character.
