Window Removal and Relocation
About the Church
Assumption Church has served the New Brighton neighborhood of Staten Island since the years following World War I. The parish grew from a small mission chapel established to serve the area’s Italian Catholic community, and the present Italian Renaissance-style church was dedicated in 1922. Today, Assumption is part of the Parish of Saints Peter & Paul and Assumption within the Archdiocese of New York.
Our Work
Willet Studios completed a preservation project focused on the church’s altar stained glass window. The work included carefully removing the historic window and replacing the existing exterior protection with a new Klear-Flo™ protective covering system.
Window Removal
The existing protective covering was first removed, allowing the altar stained glass window to be carefully taken out of its opening. The window was then transported to another location for safekeeping and future restoration work.
Klear-Flo™ Protective Coverings
With the stained glass removed, a new Klear-Flo™ protective covering system was installed in the altar window opening. The system utilized a specialized perimeter frame with 1/4-inch acrylic, providing durable protection while maintaining the appearance of the church’s historic window opening.
The Klear-Flo™ system helps protect vulnerable stained glass openings from environmental exposure and potential impact while supporting the long-term preservation of the church’s historic windows.
